Godzilla Minus One Makes Oscar History

  • Godzilla Minus One, a Japanese monster movie, won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects.
  • Directed by Takashi Yamazaki, it’s the first non-U.S. film to win in decades, and the first Godzilla film to ever be nominated.
  • Despite its small budget of $15 million, the film made history, earning over $56 million and becoming the highest-grossing Japanese film in North America.

Godzilla Minus One, a movie about the famous Japanese monster, made history at the Oscars! It won the award for best visual effects, beating four big Hollywood movies.

It’s the first time a non-U.S. movie has won this award in a long time. This was the first time a Godzilla movie was even nominated for an Oscar!

The movie was written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki, who also led the team that worked on the special effects.

Their win makes them the first Japanese team ever to win the Best Visual Effects Oscar. This kind of thing doesn’t happen often. The last time a director won this award was way back in 1969!

Yamazaki and his team beat out the special effects teams from big Hollywood movies like Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One. When Yamazaki accepted the award, he talked about how movies like Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind inspired him when he was a kid in Japan.

Godzilla Minus One isn’t just winning awards; it’s also making a lot of money. In the U.S. and Canada alone, it’s made over $56 million!

That makes it the highest-grossing Japanese movie ever in North America. That’s pretty amazing!

The movie is the 37th in the Godzilla series. It’s about Godzilla’s first appearance in Japan after a big war. Lots of people love it, and it has a great cast too!

At the Oscars, the special effects team brought some fun to the red carpet. They wore shoes with Godzilla sculptures on them and carried little Godzilla figurines.

They even wore matching bow ties with their Godzilla figurines!

All in all, Godzilla Minus One is making waves in the movie world. Winning an Oscar is a big deal, especially for a movie that didn’t have a huge budget like some of the others.

It just goes to show that you don’t need tons of money to make something amazing!
