The Stockton Borough Council has given the green light to Primark’s latest planning application for their Unit 11 store. The approval, granted on Monday, February 19, allows Primark to erect a canopy above the existing side door of the unit.
The popular retail giant is gearing up for a summer opening, and this recent development brings them one step closer to welcoming customers.
The planning application was approved with a condition that Primark completes the development within three years of receiving permission. This move is part of the council’s effort to ensure timely progress on the project.
The spokesperson for the Stockton Borough Council shared that the Local Planning Authority found the submitted details satisfactory, and they worked positively and proactively in dealing with the application.
Excitement has been building since January when signs confirming the opening plans were put up. Primark had previously received planning permission to extend the former Mothercare unit for a 2024 opening.
The extension plans included a two-story addition to the rear, the installation of a mezzanine floor, a new shop front, and associated plant and machinery. The proposal also covered car parking improvements, public realm enhancements, landscaping, and infrastructure works.
Teesside Park is not only welcoming Primark this year but also Nike Unite, slated to open its doors this month. Catherine Furlong, the centre director at Teesside Park, expressed her excitement about the new additions, emphasizing the positive impact on job opportunities in the local area.
The move of these retail giants is expected to create more employment opportunities, contributing to the growth of the local economy.
In addition to the Primark and Nike Unite developments, other changes are happening at Teesside Park. The location is set to become a hub for exciting new brands, with promises of more announcements to come.
The upcoming transformations include the opening of the YuMe World arcade on The Riverwalk in Durham, adding to the diverse offerings for visitors.
For those looking to stay connected with local happenings, there’s an opportunity to grab a digital subscription for £5 for 5 months. This ensures access to news about the latest openings, closures, and everything in between.
As the summer opening of Primark approaches, the anticipation among shoppers and job seekers in Teesside is palpable. The prospect of new retail options, job opportunities, and the overall growth of the retail park is generating positive vibes.
The landscape of Teesside Park is evolving, and residents, especially the younger crowd, can look forward to a vibrant shopping and entertainment destination in the months to come.
